Jacqui – Harriott Engineering Scholarship

My name is Jacqui. I’m currently studying A-Levels in Maths, Physics, History, and Politics. Whilst they might seem disconnected at first, I see them as deeply intertwined. Maths and Physics work in tandem, with significant overlap in logic, problem-solving and curriculum. History and Politics also complement each other, both exploring how and why people act as they do across different time periods.

Most importantly, I see Physics and History are linked in an inseparable way — both seek to understand not just what happens, but why and how things come to be. That shared curiosity is what draws me to them, and why they’ve remained my favourite subjects for as long as I can remember.

By studying such a wide-ranging but interconnected set of subjects, I believe I’m developing the skills to become a well-rounded academic, and person. I hope to continue cultivating this knowledge through higher education at university.

Outside of academia, I volunteer as a Young Leader at my local Guide unit, which has helped me grow in confidence and take on more responsibility. I also enjoy reading and fencing which are both very fun.

I’m excited by this opportunity from the Rochester Bridge Trust to explore engineering further and deepen my passion for Physics and also History due to the Trust’s long-lasting legacy.
