Borrow equipment

Are you an educator or community group leader in Kent or Medway who’s looking to run hands-on activities with young people? Would you like to borrow some equipment to help with STEM learning?

The Rochester Bridge Trust owns a selection of bridge-related equipment that can be loaned for use in schools, STEM clubs, home education groups, community organisations and more.

Education Manager Caroline Chisholm explains: “At the Trust we put a lot of emphasis on hands-on learning because it can help young people understand the application of science, technology, engineering and maths in the real world.

“The kits we have available all encourage children (and adults) to think about engineering principles while they ‘play’, which we hope will inspire the next generation of bridge builders and civil engineers.”

No experience is necessary for the adults involved, each “Bridge in a box” kit comes with pictorial instructions which are colourful and easy to follow.

Kits are available for small and large groups and are aimed at children aged seven to 11 but activities can be adapted to suit all ages and abilities. Items available include:

  • Wooden arch kits – large and small
  • K’Nex Education Introduction to Structures sets
  • Bridge bases – large and small for children to make their own creations
  • Cantilever kits – planka and nuts/washers for construction
  • Leonardo da Vinci bridge kits

To register your interest to borrow any or all of these materials (which must be personally collected from the Trust’s offices in Rochester), simply download this form, fill it in and email it to education@rbt.org.uk. All we ask in return is that you share a few photos of your finished work and let us know how you got on!
