Lily – winter update, Arkwright Scholarship

I have been getting on well with my subjects at sixth form. I am studying maths, which has involved a lot of work but where I have achieved a top grade. I am also working on a DT project in which I am designing something to aid people with learning disabilities with playing music.

I am also writing an extended essay as my special project, in which I am answering the question “To what extent can the Millennium Bridge be considered a successful design, considering the incident of it wobbling on its opening day in June 2000?”. This essay considers both DT and physics.

I have also been trying to do some extra-curricular activities. For example, I have just entered a three minute video competition run by King’s College, Cambridge, in which we talked about the significance and uses of Brownian motion. I am also looking forward to my upcoming trip to the Physics in Action talk at the Emmanuel Centre.

Lastly, I have just come back from my school trip to Geneva where we went to CERN and the Plasma Centre, which was extremely exiting. It was all very complicated, but I found it extremely interesting to look at the applications of physics and engineering elsewhere.

I am greatly looking forward to the opportunities to come, and once again am grateful to the Trust for their support.
