Joe – Bridge Wardens’ Arkwright Scholar 2018

Engineering is an important part of life as it enables us to solve everyday problems – my grandfather is an engineer and I have always been interested in construction, manufacturing and motorsports.

I am a pupil at Colfe’s School, Greenwich, where I am working towards A-levels in maths, physics, geography and design and technology. I live in Chislehurst. My aim is to study for either a civil engineering or mechanical engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree at university and to become a Chartered Engineer.

Being selected as a Rochester Bridge Trust Arkwright Engineering Scholar is a chance for me to meet engineers face to face – the main reason I applied. I am very pleased to have been chosen and look forward to the programme helping me decide exactly which discipline of engineering I want to work in when the time comes.

I was very pleased to win a scholarship and I am excited to have this award on my CV to help me stand out when applying to universities and prospective employers. I would highly recommend the scheme to any young people interested in engineering.
