I’m now studying towards an MEng in Civil Engineering at Cardiff University and have just begun a Year in Industry Placement with Morgan Sindall.
Once I graduate, my aim is to become Chartered. I am also keen to work on some pioneering projects within the field.
For me, the exciting, problem-solving nature of site work appeals more than design – I enjoy being out of the office. At present I’m working on a site at Pudding Mill Lane, which is a huge part of the Crossrail programme, spreading East to West through London.
Being an Arkwright Scholar made me more keenly aware of the opportunities available in engineering – as a result I also became an ICE QUEST scholar with Morgan Sindall. This provided exceptional links within the company and annual summer placements at various sites around the UK – including the development of an A-Road near Manchester – before leading to my current year in industry.
I would highly recommend the Arkwright scheme as it enables you to create links with students of similar interests and goals. I found it to be a brilliant accolade for things such as my university personal statement, but even more so it has enabled me to develop connections with a variety of people within the engineering and technical design industry.
