Emily – Contract Administrator

First-hand experience can make all the difference to a CV, which is why young engineer Emily has joined the Rochester Bridge Trust for the summer. This is her experience so far.

I’ve joined the Trust on a two-month placement as Contract Administrator. This means I’m assisting the Bridge Programme Manager and Bridge Clerk (Chief Executive) in the day-to-day administration of all contracts relating to the bridges. As there’s a £10 million refurbishment project under way, it’s quite a busy job and is giving me lots of experience of how large engineering projects are managed.

As well as gaining practical insights, I’m learning about contracts within engineering, which is something new to me that I’m finding really interesting. I also enjoy seeing what work is being done on the bridges and learning about all the other aspects of the Trust’s work.

This is an excellent summer job for me to have before going to university in September, as it is giving me good experience that I can take to my lectures, helping me to understand certain things better – especially how contracts work and, of course, bridges!
