Brecon – Bridge Wardens’ Arkwright Scholar 2016

How things work and are connected has always intrigued me, which meant it was only natural I became interested in STEM subjects.

I live near Dartford and am a pupil at Wilmington Grammar, where I am studying towards A-levels in physics, maths and system control engineering.

The world’s infrastructure would be very different without civil engineering as most of the things we use every day – transport, water, electricity, buildings – would not be around, and so once I finish school I would like to get a higher apprenticeship post in the field. I feel this will this give me good experience ahead of becoming involved in large-scale projects.

This is also the reason I applied to the Rochester Bridge Trust Arkwright Engineering Scholars scheme. It’s already been incredibly useful and I’m looking forward to getting more involved as my scholarship progresses.
