Free film screening to improve accessibility to engineering

A free screening of a fantasy adventure film aims to open up the endless possibilities of engineering to young children and their families.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms tells a story of challenges to be overcome, and it will be shown in Ashford free of charge and with subtitles to reach out to as wide an audience as possible.

Claire Saunders, Education Officer at the Rochester Bridge Trust, explained: “This film has been selected for its link to engineering, physics and invention. The themes of the laws of physics and of inventions set the context for the central characters, Clara and her godfather, who is a skilled engineer and inventor. Clara shows significant promise as a problem solver and engineer in her own right, meaning this is a great opportunity to demonstrate the variety and inclusivity of engineering for all.

“For this screening the film will also have subtitles, meaning we will be able to welcome a much wider audience.”

The screening will take place at Cineworld Ashford, on Sunday 15th December. Before the show begins families will be invited to take part in some of their own engineering challenges with hands-on learning activities in the cinema, starting at 10am. The film will be shown at 10.45am and is rated PG.

Tickets are free but must be booked by clicking here or email education@rbt.org.uk to register.
