Modern Structures 2024 – residential course

  • Do you know a young person who takes an interest in how structures work?
  • Are they in Year 10?
  • Would they enjoy three days away from home, learning with others?

When a young person takes an interest in a particular career or subject, it’s natural to want to support and encourage that enthusiasm as much as possible. So it can be hard when opportunities come with a price tag.

The Rochester Bridge Trust aims to make engagement in STEM subjects and civil engineering easier, by covering the cost of participation in an education opportunity for budding civil engineers.

Modern Structures 2024 is an all-inclusive residential course taking place at Kingston University, South West London, from 30 July to 1 August 2024.

Students will enjoy three days immersed in a vibrant STEM community, taking part in hands-on learning, applying theory and unravelling the magic of bridges. Evenings are packed with organised social activities.

As course sponsor, the Rochester Bridge Trust is supporting the provision of a number of fully funded places through Smallpeice, for those that meet certain eligibility criteria. Additionally, the Trust is funding 50% bursaries for students meeting other eligibility criteria. To enquire about a bursary, please email with the subject line “Modern Structures Bursary”, and including your postcode.

The course – which is open to children from across the whole of the UK – is provided by The Smallpeice Trust. The usual cost is £345. To find out more and book a paid-for place, click here. The closing date for both funded and paid places is 1 July 2024.

Other support

A selection of other scholarships and grants are available to encourage engagement in civil engineering, as well as a range of free education activities to help parents and teachers.
